I want to restrore XP-PRO, SP2 (on T61) to the factory-ship state using the recovery media (created when the laptop was new). But I remember reading somewhere (i think it was this forum but can't find the post) that----- RnR 4.00 for T61, XP-PRO has a bug and the recovery media created with this version will not restore the system unless you get some missing XP-os file and load it through a floppy(?) can anyone confirm and explain the solution or tell me there is no issues with RnR4.00? thanks

Lots of people here to help you. You can make it easier if you can be more clear about the details. The IBM web site is still the best source of information about Thinkpad issues, even tho it is now IENOVO that sells the well-known laptop.
Here is a link from a GOOGLE search:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67191.html
Did you already search that site? What is the full model number of the machine you have? The recovery question may depend on which model you have and it not really a general XP issue.

Try the manufacture Web site for reinstall instructions. most Computers that need
help with Drivers from Floppy at the start, are needing Drivers for the Hard Drive
controllers.
