Why would anyone here no information regarding Microsoft products that even Microsoft
doesn't seem to know?
What is known is:
1) that it was released a couple of weeks ago and almost immediately pulled because
of major problems (what a surprise).
2) read the info on the page and you'll learn there is no compelling reason to install
it.
3) one has to be out of his/her mind to install it before its 6 months old. Let others
be the guinea pigs for you.

Is there any value to getting XP SP3? All I could see on the MS site was that it
was for "improving" MS Office.

Good question, and MS have answered it themselves.
SP3 contains all the fixes issued in SP1 and SP2, plus those issued since, and applies
a few additional changes which MS say most users won't even notice.
So if your PC is up-to-date I doubt you will see any value.
On the flip-side, as I'm sure you know all major MS releases are "buggy", if only
because they have to work in diverse cirsumstances on zillions of different PCs -
in fact the SP3 release has now been delayed as it conflicts with one of MS's own
packages !
So, unless you have a problem you know that SP3 will address (and I bet you don't),
leave it for 6 months in which time hopefully those who insist on installing it "because
its there" will provide the feedback MS will need to make it stable and problem-free.
Or just don't bother.

Are you sure you have Windows SP3 and not Office SP3. Your description makes it sound
like you are installing office SP3.

Service Pack 3
Service Pack 3 is a pain, it recently came up as an automatic update so (like an
idiot...) I downloaded and installed it and lo and behold my pc would'nt even boot
so i then had to re-install my OS (last resort all other options failed) then i read
that i had to download an update from HP as i have got an AMD processer so to everyone-DON'T
BOTHER until Microsoft have sorted it all out, 1000's of hotfixes like XP.
