Diagnosis xp

here Lately I have seen an extreme increase in computers totally messed up through
security flaws and xp just totally
taken over. For me to fix it just about nothing works other than a complete re installation
of xp usually with a fresh new
partition. Well I have a big family and alot of friends and i am always doing this.
I was just wondering if their was any good software that could tackle some of these
things without re installation or if thats the only way. I have seen alot of software
on the net that claims this and that but know of nothing that may really work. I
need powerful software that could diagnose and bring xp files and registry back to
their untampered state. Please let me know your thoughts

All software that purports to "restore" XP is snake oil. Of course the makers claim
otherwise, even stoking up demand by "diagnosing" that your PC needs treatment when
it doesn't - but its still snake oil.
I know that "all" is a big word, but I meant it :-)
Far better to keep the rubbish out with decent security tools (all free) and by not
using Internet Explorer - but once its there you can either:
1. Re-install - the only real solution to a heavily infected PC
2. Repair/install - which does a pretty good job most of the time, but don't rely
on your files being saved . . . usually does but not always
3. Post to one of the specialist malware forums - my favourite is SpywareBeware but
there are others . . . you have to register (but they're free) and follow the posting
instructions carefully.
Additionally, take a full image backup of the PC (Acronis is best IMHO) when its
re-built and then you can fully restore to a known state in 5 - 10 minutes.

If you thoughtfully partition your drive so that all data is stored on a separate
partition, you can use any drive imaging software such as Acronis to essentially
do a complete re-install in about five minutes. The problems you are experiencing
are most likely due to the computing habits of your family, most likely the kids
are visiting sites that offer lots of intriguing downloads that are malware in disguise.
I almost never have any issues that require a re-installation, but when I do, it's
a very quick recovery.
