XP SP3 won't download? Worth it?

Hey everyone. I went to the Microsoft update sight and tried to download XP SP3 but
it wouldn't? The dialog box appeared saying download in progress but 3 hours later...nothing?
Is it recommended or not necessary?

It took an hour to download it on a comparatively decent cable connection, but for
now it remains in reserve "just in case", same as WindowsXP itself isn't my main
OS (Win2K is). I will also obtain and carefully preserve the CD version of SP-3
as well, for similar potential requirements.
The majority of its contents have previously been offered through MS Windows' normal
XP update pages.

I am running SP3 on a laptop as a "trial" - so far I have had no problems - but then
I primarily run Microsoft programs....
