Administrator (name) all over XP.

Under Documents and Settings there are main folders like Administrator, All Users, Current User etc. Some people (users) are having the Administrator folder on their private name(s). I'd like to have my name Tom along side with the All Users, Current User def's all over the XP. For example, when opening the Explore (R-click on Start button), under Documents and Settings there will be the All Users folder and all its subfolders (including Start Menu Programs) and Tom folder and all its subfolders (including Start Menu Programs). It is not allowed to change that kind of folder name locally, cause it effects the entire system. How do I do that ? Thanks.

I find your request to be very confusing. Have you created an account with your name?

Hi I'm not talking about that. I know how to create an account. Follow the example I gave: R-click Start button, click explore. Look to Documents and Settings. It contains All Users (under that also Start Menu Programs) and it contains Administrator or what ever the name is, could be other (under that also Start Menu Programs). If you also open My Computer, Root (C:), Document and Settings you'll find Administrator (or what ever the name is), All Users, Current User etc. When changing Administrator (or what ever the name is) to another one it effects the whole system. Its impossible to change like any other common folder. It has to be done somewhere else. I don't know how to do that.

Still not sure, but maybe this is what you're looking for:

You can't rename the folders (even if you change the account's name, the folders maintain the original name). Well, technically, you can, but it involves hacking into the registry, a real waste of time. I'm not sure why this is such a big issue for people, but if you insist on having a different name for your folders, you have to create a new user profile with the correct name, and then transfer the data from the other account into the new account. Here's how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/ If you are talking about changing the default names of any other folders, like My Documents, My Pictures, etc.. it is all in the registry.

Hi Appleoddity Thanks for your respond. This is not what I'm looking for. Try to follow the example I gave with R-click Start, select Explore and the way it appears in Doc. and Sett. to understand my request. I'm looking for how to change the name of the main def. (Administrator I would think). When installing XP you are asked to choose a name. Thanks.

I'm having a really hard time understanding what you are trying to do...You want to change the login name of the main administrator account? If you have windows XP home edition, you don't. The administrator account is not even accessible unless you are in safe mode. And to top it off, you don't have the users and groups mmc to modify that kind of stuff. Windows XP Home automatically creates an OWNER account. XP Professional will let you manage users and groups by going into computer management and choosing Local Users and Groups.. You can rename any accounts there.
