"Open With" List entries

First of all I would like to thank this site for it has solved most of my problems
in the past. I have been getting information here all along when problems occured
to me, but it seems that this time I can find no topics that would help me in my
present problem.
Ok, here's the thing..
When I right click a certain mp3 file, or video file, and go to the open with, there
comes a list of programs which are as follows:
RealPlayer
Windows Media Player
Quicktime Player
RealPlayer
...wait, whoa, there are two entries for RealPlayer. Now that isn't right. I decide
to check them and see if the file does open with RealPlayer on both entries, and
yes, it does. But why are there two anyway? Is there anyway to delete the other entry
and just make one entry for the player?
Ok, so I decided to further my checking by going to the open with > choose program..
This is what I got:
Recommended Programs:
(The ones I have mentioned above)
Other Programs:
(Notepad, Wordpad, Paint, RealPlayer, Windows, Picture and Fax Viewer, Etc.)
..Wait, again something isn't right. Another RealPlayer entry below, and this time
it isn't with a proper icon (the above entries have their proper thumb icons).. I
chose to open the file with this program to check if it opens properly on RealPlayer
too only to find a message that says C:\Music\file.mp3 is not a valid win32 application.
I have tried to find solutions to these but unfortunately they didn't change a thing.
I have tried uninstalling RealPlayer. The two entries on the recommended programs
did not appear, however the entry on the other programs group was still there.
I reinstalled the player and found that everything was also back there again (specifically
the double entries).
I guess my question is, how can I delete duplicate entries on the open with list?
And how do I delete entries which I don't which I don't want to appear in the open
with list?
Hope you guys would be able to help me out.
Thanks in advance..

This is not the exact ino, but it is a place to start.:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859
Next, look at this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268274/en-us
And there is more:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/134846/en-us
And if you have SP-1:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328085/en-us
Sorry, but I do not know which of these will help you. As for me, I un-install as
much as I can. And if that fails, I re-install Windows. About every 90 days or so.
Or I use the restore thing.

With the greatest respect if you have to re-install Windows every 90 days then you
have a serious problem..... My current XP installation has been running since May
2000 without any need to re-install - I just take sensible precautions...

I agree, however May of 2000? When was XP released? (I believe August, 2001). Also
you haven't changed computers since then? Wow, I've been through at least four, maybe
five. Replacing computers is sort of an addiction I need to overcome.

You're correct on the date - my memory is not what it used to be! In fact it seems
that my current installation only dates back to July 2004, so my claim was a bit
over the top! I have recently upgraded motherboard and processor (dual core) but
kept the same SATA boot drive. I guess I have satisfied my need for change by
building PC's for others!

Thanks a lot. I have tried looking into these, but it seems I can't find something
that could help me. I have tried a few, though to no avail.
