Ads not displaying for firefox or IE

I can go to sites and the main windows come up, but any ads all come up saying this: Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at adimg.cnet.com. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. So if I go to a site it says that all over the page in all the different ad boxes. I have downloaded Java updates and still no change. Any help please? Thanks in advance

I'm sorry, are you saying you want to view the ads rather than them being blocked?

Consider UNinstalling whatever ad-blocking software is installed on your machine?
 And check your hosts file.

Just to clarify, when I say ads, I don't mean popups, I mean just the ads on the site. Odd thing is, yahoo displays ads fine, however most of the other sites do not display ads at all. I will check the ad blocking software, but I have never personally encountered something like this before.

I understood that you meant ads, not popups; that's why I suggested you turn off
your ad-blocking software, rather than your popup blocker.

The ad-blocking software very likely made changes to your hosts file, so I'd look
there first.
