i burned some photos onto a CD-R disk and then later burned another set. The first
bunch i burned no longer show up in the Explorer directory and seem to be missing
from the disk. What gives?

It's not clear exactly what you did. CD-R are not re-writable so - "and then later
burned another set" would be difficult! Are you sure that you did not use a CD-RW?
- in which case you have erased the first burn by carrying out the second.....

If you are using CDRW disks, throw them away, and buy nothing but CDR's. CDRW are
simply too unreliable.

it a CD-R disk and i can burn onto it multiple times, but i can't erase
i burned some photos a month ago, yesterday i put the disk in and it said that all
that data was there, then i burned a few more photos onto the disk, and now all that
shows up are the new photos i burned, it's like it erased the original bunch of
photos but i don't know how since it's not an eraseable disk
when i few the disk space it says half the disk is full and it is accurately recording
the total file sizes of all the photos i burned (a month ago and yesterday's), so
again it appears it all burned but i can't seen to call it up in any directory or
access anything but yesterday's photos

I stopped burning CDRs using multiple tracks because of the same problem. Try Finalizing
the CDR, that sometimes works at making the multiple Tracks visable again. I now
always Finalize every CDR I burn.

Multiple sessions are rather risky as well. CDs are cheap ~10 cents each. They should
be treated as disposable items.

How to finalize, just depends on the software. I use Nero, at the start, I have 3
Check boxes, Start Multisession, or Continue a multisession, or No Multisession,
then a couple more Check Boxes at the Burning Window Pops up to Write the Disk, and
Finalize the Disk.

Burning Multisession CDs on a Apple is not much better,
Reports on the Apple Discussions concerning burning multi-session CDs
* Some users report no problems whatsoever.
* Some users cannot get multi-session CDs burned in to mount, or can only get
the first session to mount in Finder or on the desktop.
* Some have found it is necessary to restart their Macs after burning a multi-session
CD to get the disc to mount properly.
