Disabled power options without any notice

In Windows XP home edition, the following options sometimes uncheck or disable without
any notice. This does not happen in Windows XP professional. How do I fix this problem
so that they will remain checked or enabled? I fully charge and fully discharge the
battery of my laptop very often.

Start > Control panel > Power options > Tab "Power meter" > Option "Show details
for each battery".
Start > Control panel > Power options > Tab "Advanced" > Option "Always show icon
on the taskbar".

Are you ever running the laptop without the battery installed? When you say it happens in home edition but not professional, how are you testing that? Do you have XP Pro, and Home on the same laptop? Most likely the problem has nothing to do with home or pro.. Its the particular laptop.

Also, many laptop vendors install proprietary software that controls your power options.. If that is the case with your laptop, I would suspect this to be the problem and uninstall it completely, allowing Windows to manage the power features.
