SP3: is WGA compulsory?

Hi,
As I'm not using any "Advantages" from Microsoft I am wondering if this is still
possible after SP3.
I DO own a legal, bought, paid-for version on CD.
I do NOT trust Microsoft with my data.
I simply don't agree with their attitude.
Am I compromising my approach by installing the SP3?
Thanks.

Some people seem to like SP3. Review the following article at:http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews//index.cmf?/reviewid==1782&pn=3.
Any comments?

SP3 is totally unnecessary and can cause new problems. You could have found the answer
by putting SP3 in the
search box at the top of this page, but just to get you started, see:

et al ...

Thanks for the help.
Looks like I need to clarify:
I have read all the threads mentioned before asking my question.
I have read comments in several forums before asking my question.
I have exhausted my resources before asking my question.
My question is not whether I need SP3.
My question is: will SP3 change the handling of the WGA?
I have avoided this "feature" and would like to in the future. Which means I have
maybe not installed all updates. So SP3 would provide me with an easy way of ensuring
I have all updates installed. If this causes problems, I have read that you can roll-back
and have wasted some time, but nothing else.
Thank you for your help.
