Formatting with Windows XP disk

I have been hit by a bunch of spayware and trojans lately and my pc is all messed
up. This all happened while nortons and mcafee were running. I am wanting to format
my hard drive and start over. When I load my pc from the cd drive with my windows
xp home disk it goes to the blue screen with white letters that says Windows Setup
and then it freezes from there. It will not load and I cant do anything from this
point.
So does anyone know why it is freezing up at that point.
Or is there another way to format my hard drive without the windows disk in the cd
drive?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks
Scott

If you want to Format, then you need to boot from the CD. Sounds like you are just
running the XP CD when Windows is already running. You can't Format that way. I like
to delete the Old Partition, Create a New one, then Format before starting the Install,
That way you are sure the Crap is gone.

Ok this is what I am doing
I put in the cd the reboot and when it restarts I boot from the CD drive. Then it
loads to the blue window set up screen and then does nothing from there.
So how do I delete the partion and create a new one without booting from the disk.
How can I get to the screen that allows you to do this without the windows cd?

What should Happen is a bunch of files start loading
Then the End User License
Agreement or EULA which must be accepted to continue installation. Press F8 to accept.
Then yada yada.
If those things are not happening within the first couple
minutes, then I would guess a Hardware problem if you aren't doing something wrong.

Further to Steve's comments, have you pressed any key when the installation requests
that you do so? Verbatim, 'Press any key to boot from CD'.

1. Remove any usb mouse/keyboard?? (Not sure on that one)
2. Check the CD. Boot it in another PC. Boot another CD in yours.
3. Try another cd player in your PC.
4. Get into the BIOS. If you hve not made any changes in the pc, try "resore defaults"
first. If that doesn't work you need to disable devices (sound, modems, anything
but keyboard, mouse, video and hardrive). You can try this first if you are confident/capable
in there.
5. You probably need help if you're on number 5. I would start by pulling memory
sticks.
