Missing Hard Drive

I have been in the process of recovering from a virus and one of the results is an unrecognized hard drive in the "search" command in the "start" menu. When I want to do a search and am given the options of where to look instead of seeing the option: Local Hard Drives (C:) it has Local Hard Drives () and the search is complete almost immediately. The hard drive is funcitonal because the computer works, but I am unable to do any searching on the hard drive. The system I am using is Windows XP home edition. Thank you for any help and advice that can be offered.

That is very odd and I could not find any tips about it by Googling. The search dialog offers you a drop-down list of places to search in. Is the C: drive listed there individually i.e. not as part of "local hard drives"? This might be your workaround if a better solution cannot be found. Cheers. Spexx.

No, the C: drive is not listed individually outside of the "Local Hard Drives" option. The other drives, the A:, and the DVD and CD drives are there but not the C:

Does the C: drive show up ok in Explorer i.e. when you double-click on My Computer on your desktop? If you right-click on My Computer, choose Manage, navigate to Disk Management tree, does it show up ok in there too? Cheers. Spexx.
