Blue error screen on running antivirus

Hi, I know there are posts from before on blue error screen messages, but I really dont know if they are the same as mine, so here goes. I get a blue error screen when running AVG 8.0 which I upgraded from 7.5,never had this when running 7.5, this also sometimes happened when running Adaware or Spybot, I was convinced that it was something to do with AVG so uninstalled it, Adaware and Spybot ran fine after that, well for the couple of times that I tried them after. So I installed a different antivirus Avira antivir, on running that last night, lo and behold we crashed again with the blue error screen. Have had several different messages :Driver_not_less_or_equal, Pfn_list_corrupt, Bad_pool_caller. Not sure what any of these mean. Am on a Packard Bell Imedia 1706 with XP Home. Hopefully someone can help.

IME when you get BSODs with all sorts of different STOP error codes, very often that 
means it turns out to be a memory issue.

If you feel comfortable inside the box, remove your RAM, gently polish the golden 
fingers with a soft pencil eraser, then blow out the dust and replace RAM.

If you don't feel comfortable under the hood, you could try a memory testing program.

Hi Thanks for your help, have done what you said with the ram, then tried running antivirus, but again it went to blue error screen, saying bad_pool_caller. So did the windows diagnostic memory test which reported no errors, so now I am back where I started. Am hoping you may have some more ideas? Thanks again

The STOP errors you are seeing have two major causes, (a) RAM-related such as bad 
ram or poor contact, and (b) driver-related such as damaged or out-of-date drivers.

The driver problem also includes file system filters/drivers that antivirus programs 
install.

Uninstall your current AV, restart.

Visit the support page for your make and model of computer and see if there are any 
BIOS and driver updates available that you do not have.  Consider installing those 
updates.  Restart as necessary.

After that, visit Windows Updates to see if there are any safety/security updates 
that you don't have, and if so, consider installing them.

Visit Trend Micro's housecall of Symantec's online scanner and do scans for any serious 
viruses/malware.

If all that goes well, try installing a trial version of one of the name-brand antivirus 
programs and run it, checking to see if it blue-screens as others did before.

Have you installed any new hardware? If so, look at it first.

Otherwise, you may have bad spots on your disk, particularly the swap file (virtual 
memory). Try "Run --> chkdsk c: /r". This will take a long time, run it before going 
to bed.

If chkdsk doesn't help, look for a bad device/driver. Start in safe mode and see 
if you can run a scan from there.

Hi Thanks again, did all that you said, went to packard bell site, downloaded updates for bios and some others, ran trend micro housecall - nothing found on there. Then installed trial version of mcafee, ran that hooray stayed running no crash. Then ran spybot - again ran the whole thing no crash, thought it was sorted. Today it has blue error screened 3 times when no one or no programme running on it, just sitting idle, so absolutely no idea, should i replace the ram or what about taking it back to factory settings?
