NEED HELP!!! To whom it may concern: Please help me, my CD ROM disappeared after upgrading from SP2 to SP3...After two days a friend lend me his windows royale but to no avail it didn't fix the problem..Now I can't even see my CD ROM in my device manager, I've tried searching in the net to fix my problem but to no avail have failed...I've tried the ROUXDOUX and CDGONE patch, the registry edit by deleting the lower an dupper filter, this method doesn't fix my problem with my CD ROM disappearance.. In my registry I noticed that I have 4 cotrol sets numbered 1,2 and 3 and the other one is the current control set...Would deleting the numbered control set fix the problem??? Or will re-installing the SP2 guarantee full functionality of the CD ROM??? PLEASE ADVISE... TNKS A LOT!!! Jayson Ramos

9:18 PM 7/25/2008 Do you know the black magic of Regedit? If so use this,If not go to http://www.dougknox.com/ ; There you try to find:CD Gone.exe.Idowloaded that about 3 years ago, might be gone by now. If you can't find it let me know I can send it to you it's only 25K.It does the job. 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK. 3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} 4. On the File menu, click Export. 5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save. 6. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes. Note If this data type is missing, go to Method 2. 7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes. 8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. Method 2: Replace the existing driver 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. If Control Panel is in Category view, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. If Control Panel is in Classic view, double-click System. 3. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. 4. Click the drive with the question mark next to it. 5. On the Action menu, click Uninstall. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click OK. 6. Repeat steps 4 through 5 for any other drives with question marks. 7. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. ----------------------

My guess is that the CD unit has failed or become unplugged from the data cable. The fact this happened after upgrade could just be coincidental. If all else failed I would try connecting the CD drive to another machine to see if that could see it or not, but naturally that would mean a fair bit of "surgery" to both machines. Cheers. Spexx.
