Hello all, i have Bought 1GB DDR memory thought of updating my desktop PC from 768 MB to more than 1GB, and when i put my new ddr ram the machine never come up and i tried all the way positioning the new ddr out of my 3 slots, but again never worked, but when i put only the new ddr ALONE 1GB then the machine start to come up, what could be the reason, could it be that the CPU is in suffiecient enought to carry all at the same time?what do u guys think, i still need to have more than 1GB of ram. the new DDR is 1GB 400Mhz 184 pins the old DDR 512Mb and 256 with 333 mhz and 184 pins. Mother board pentium 4 with 173Ghz. Thanks for the help.

Probably the problems are related to the Ram being mismatched.

Man, that's a fast cpu! Been known for years that XP doesn't like mixed RAM.

Yup, if it works by itself, then definitely a speed mismatch problem, so if you want more than 1GB you will have to buy another 400Mhz 1GB stick of a couple 333Mhz 512MB sticks.
