Windows Explorer Problems EDIT Copy/etc

Hi there I just installed a Roxio software product EasyMediaCreator10, having been advised to use the Widows Clean Installer Tool. Now I find that when I am in Windows Explorer, if I do any of the EDIT commands such as Cut/Paste or Right Click Drag, Windows fires up the Installer and tries to instal (in this case) Roxio Easy CD 6, which I thought I had completely removed. After I cancel these popups, the PASTE or MOVE is correctly executed. I did a System backup (System Restore) and Registry backup before doing the instal, but can anybody suggest what might have gone wrong, and how I might correct it other than restoring one or other of these files? I am running XP Professional SP3. Thanks PL

Hi Philip, Here are on this forum members with a lot more knowledge that I have about this. Still, I think they will tell you the same thing. It is very hard to correct an installation error other that using the uninstall operation. When that fails, System Restore, or restore from Backup are the recommendations.
Having said that, there some Hot Fixes from Microsoft for specific problems with SP3 issues, but I am not sure that would apply in your case. The issue with SP3 has to do with anti-virus programs.

I would uninstall Roxio 10, then see if the problem still occurs. If it does, do a System Restore to before you uninstalled Roxio 6 and check it.

If that's good then run Windows Installer Cleanup and see if there are any Roxio 6 remnants left and delete if yes. Then try Roxio 10 again.

Many thanks to geekpm and Rich Kurtz for responding so quickly. Fortunately I have managed to recover the situiation without using REGEDIT or System Restore. I found a spurious program entry in Add/Remove Prpgrams (not sure why), and when I REMOVED that program, my problem with EDIT/ Copy disappeared. All rather weird but thanks again to geek and Rich. Cheers PL
