Have you done a search for the "My Pictures" folder?
If so, have you tried a system restore to before this problem happened?
Did you accidentally delete this folder?

To get it back on the Start Menu
Right-click the "Start" button and choose "Properties". Click the "Customize" button
then the "Advanced" tab.
You'll see a list of items that you can add or remove from the Start Menu such as
My Music, My Pictures, and more. You also have the option to display as links or
menus. When you're done, click OK to save changes.

If the folder is really gone (As Deb says, make a thorough search !), get TweakUI
for XP (free download).
Make a new folder (call it what you like) and then you can use TweakUI for XP to
"nominate" it as your My Pictures folder, which will result in it being given all
the appropriate settings and references.
On the other hand, if you mean that files in it have disappeared, that's a different
problem: some ideas:
1. Look in your recycle bin
2. Search for a file whose name you know (having first turned on "View hidden files
and folders in Windows explorer)
3. Google for one of the free file recovery programs - if you are going down this
route its best to use your PC as little as possible so you don't over-write too many
files
4. Reach for your backups

This is not applicable to the "Classic Start Menu"
