no access to register key while installing mediaplayer 11

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspirion 6000 laptop and try to install Windows mediaplayer 11 over
wmp 9.
At about 87% installation stops.
In Windows\updspapi.log it says:
access error at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Mediaplayer\settings\MP3Encoding\Lowrate.
In regedit i even got no rights to acces the folder settings.
Tried everything i found with Google to give myself rights there but nothing works.
(tried to let underlying folders inherit permissions from 'higher' folders, but even
there i ain't got rights)
Anybody 's got any suggestions?

When you select the key that you can not access, click "edit" -> "permissions."
In there you can click "Advanced." Click the "Owner" tab, select "Administrators"
for the owner and check "Replace owners on all subcontainers." Click APPLY. Ignore
any warning.
Now, click "OK." and close all windows except regedit. Now, click "Edit" -> "Permissions,"
again for the same key. Now, under the first screen that opens, make sure "administrators"
is listed, and it is set at "Full control." If it isn't listed, ADD it, and give
it full control. Click OK, and you now have permissions.
I shouldn't need to mention that you DO have to be logged in with an administrator
account. That should be obvious if you are trying to install something. :)

Hi appleoddity,
THANKS it works! I had to do it twice, after the key 'settings' the WMP install created
a subkey 'MP3encoding' that also had no owner or users and caused the installation
to break off.
Same trick on that subkey and WMP 11 is installed now.
Special thanks from my daughter, because it's her laptop and she needed WMP11 badly
to transfer music to her new mp3 player.
