desktop icons show as IE icons

All of my desktop icons, except for Microsoft Word, show as an IE icon with a short-cut
arrow. How do I change this? For example, Kim Komondo, which usually shows her
picture, is shown as an IE icon with a short-cut arrow.

I have searched for answer but all I can find is how to show the desktop IE icon.

If I understand your question, it sounds like your favicons got deleted. Check out
this site and look under the "Preserving Your Favicons" link.

Hmmmm, will try again. For some reason, would not paste all of my message, so I
will type it in.

I wemt to C:\Documents and Settings, Anna Ruth, Local Setings, Temporary Internet
Files in Windows XP and they ae mostly .tmp, nothing in there with the name Favicons.
I made a folder and named it Favicons, but when I would try to copy the items into
the folder.I kept getting an error messge saiyng Error Copying File or Folder. that
it is being used by another person or program.

Open Regedit and see these two subkeys. Check the values there if the data values are like in mine.If not,change it.See the DefaultIcon. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ico] @="icofile" "PerceivedType"="image" "Content Type"="image/x-icon" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ico\PersistentHandler] @="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ico\ShellEx] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ico\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\icofile] @="Icon" "ImageOptionFlags"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\icofile\DefaultIcon] @="%1"

The favicon will not be named favicon. You will have to revisit the web site and
you may have to rebook mark it. It will then create the favicon icon in your TIF
. Look for the same pic and copy that icon file only.

Thank you,Bobcat. A few minutes ago I happened to remember that I had a registry backup for December 18. (Duh) I did that and the desktop icons are okay now. Thanks so much. Will keep your info for sometime when the registry backups do not work. :)
