recovering email files XP Professional

Following a 'melt down' hard drive failure I'm in the process of restoring programs
and data onto a new hard drive. I'm at a loss to incorporate previously received
emails into the newly constituted 'In box'.
I've got an image of the the drives before things took a turn for the worse!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
FTB

If you are using Outlook Express that comes with XP, you will need to locate the
".dbx" files that comprise your various OE folders and import them, for instance,
on my login, mine are kept in :C:\Documents and Settings\Mark L\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{0561C0B3-1B8F-46E2-8921-4ECFFB951DD3}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Hope this helps...

"I've got an image of the the drives before things "restore the image that's what
the image is for,it is all there.Don't know what program you used to create the image
but I think all of them ask you to make a rescue floppy in DOS.

Most IMAGING programs have a program built into the software (IMAGEExplorer or a
name something like that) to look at the files and folders in the IMAGE and to replace
just the needed files to anywhere you would like. So if after your reload, install
the IMAGING program and then you should be able to EXPLORE your IMAGE for the files
needed at the previous posters location.

Thanks to Mark, MartinM, Alex and Romasurus -I've been on a learning curve with this
- thus far I've recovered about 2.5K emails (Outlook Express) but nothing after
2005 - so I continue to work at it! Thanks. FTB

Just because your original HD stopped working properly, doesn't mean that it is unaccessible.
You may still be able to connect it as a slave drive and still access the data. Just
make sure after it is properly connected, the BIOSm is set to boot to the new drive.
Of course if your old drive had the terrible click click clik sound coming from it,
you are then probably out of luck.

Following my 'sojourn in the wilderness' - a 'clinical' approach to this problem
has evolved - which is: Using Windows Explorer applied to the saved image go - Documents
& settings -then named folder (in my case Frank Beech )- , then, Local Settings
- Application data - Identities - copy folder to new hard drive and import under
File in Outlook Express.
Thanks to everyone - you've been helping a slow learner!
