Can you not set Outlook Express as your e-mail program in the programs settings under internet options that you mentioned?

Follow the link on my previous post to find instructions how to reinstall Outlook Express 6. (Part of Internet Explorer 6) The following instructions may work. If you are using IE7, uninstall it and revert back to IE6. Now, click start -> run -> type '%systemroot%\inf' and press ENTER. (Without the quotes) Find the ie.inf file. Right click it and choose "Install." When finished, reboot. Now, see if Outlook Express shows up in the mail program listing. If it does, upgrade back to IE7.

I've had this tip forever, and it should work regardless of the OS or OE version.

To make sure OE is the default email client:

Select Start/Run, type the command below (or Copy/Paste), including " marks, in
the 'Open' box and press enter.

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg

Next open Internet Explorer and go to Tools Internet Options under Programs and set
OE as the default mail program.

If that doesn't do it, try Start - Run, type: MSIMN /REG in the 'Open' box
and press enter.

You're welcome, I was wishing I'd have checked your post earlier.

A small window should open, with the title Launch Application, so you can choose
which program you want to use. You get no box like that?

Maybe you need to go back and reset OE as your default client, even though you already
have. Plus, make sure it's set as your email client in IE too.

I found this Microsoft article doing a Google search. The first part is what I had
you do before, registering OE as default client.

If you're comfortable editing the registry, scroll down to this section..."To add
the data string to the default mail client key":

"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default

Try again. I checked my registry, and I couldn't find Clients subkey at first. Make
sure you're in the right place, double check.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express

Here's how mine looks, maybe that'll help? Or, maybe not! :)

I know M$ is discouraging the use of OE and wants users to replace it with Windows
Live and use that instead. Plus, you have Windows Live installed, and it's s'posedly
takes the place of OE.

That may be what changed things, because OE should be listed there otherwise. You
don't want to use Windows Live? If not, maybe uninstalling it would help sort this
out.

No, don't reinstall Windows because of this.

What Apple.. was suggesting you do is uninstall IE 7 temporarily, repair/reinstall
IE 6 and see if that solves the problem. Then reinstall 7 again. Anyway, to see his
reply with those instr., choose the "Show All" link for this thread. His second reply
to you. However, you did get OE to show up in the list.

I'm sorry, I meant to do some more digging yesterday but wasn't online long enough.
(Shoot..., now I can't think of the search terms I used but there were quite a few
resources to check). I'll try to recall what it was and get back to you soon as possible,
IF his instr. don't help you.

Just a thought.... check in Folder Options, file types tab and scroll down to URL:Mail Protocol and URL:Mailto Protocol. Is the OE icon showing next to those?

Now that you've selected Outlook Express as your default mail client within Internet Options, what is happening when you try to send e-mail from within IE? Are you still getting the same "default mail client not setup" error, or something different? Please be more specific.
