Hi All, Booted my pc up this morning to find it constantly opening a htm file located the windows dir. Looked it up on google and deleted the files that were spyware, one was "taskman.exe". Now I can't run taskmgr.exe or use "Crtl + Alt + Del" When I run taskmgr a box comes up saying that windows cannot find the file. Any ideas? -Michael-

You deleted Task Mgr. i.e. taskman.exe. It's not the GUI, which is taskmgr.exe. Maybe get a copy from someone you know and put it in System32 dir.

taskman must not have been part of the virus. look in your recycle bin, and restore taskman.exe. otherwise, look and see if you have a copy in your 'i386' folder (if you even have that folder). post back for help.

I have taskman.exe (15,360 bytes) in each of the following directories:

C:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS\system32
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
\See if you have it in any of them. If so copy to the others.

All the files are there, just running them dosn't do anything. If i rename Taskmgr I can run it and it all works fine. I read up that some virus's can block access to taskmgr and the "ctrl alt del" shortcut, but i've updated my virus deffinitions and run 3 scans and found nothing.

Not finding anything after running a few scans with your onboard AV program, doesn't
mean anything. That's no indication your system's not infected.

In your initial post you said, "Looked it up on google and deleted the files that
were spyware.."

What exactly did you find on Google, and what were you looking up? Said you deleted
files that were spyware, so do you have a link to the page you used for reference?

Run a scan with this program... after you download, install and update MalwareBytes'
