anyone who can help out there & I will be grateful.

Other operating systems are NOT Windows applications, you shouldn't have expected
to be able to remove them like any Windows app. Just delete the files on the drive,
and edit boot.ini to remove the option.

Before installing Linux or any other OS onto a Windows XP system you first must have
the following:
1. A full backup of the system partition, using a 'clone' program like Ghost or Acronis.
http://www.acronis.com/
2. A method of repairing the MBR of the boot drive. This can be the FIXMBR tool in
the recovery console of the standard XP install disk.
3. A method of restoring the size of the Windows XP opartition.
Of course, the MS Backup utiity can be used, but you need to have two hard drives.
And if you had two hard drives your would have installed Linux on the second drive
without the first drive present. That would avoid the problem you know have.
Don't mean to sound rude, but the problem is really beyond the scope of this forum.
Find me, or someone else, on any of the Linux forums and they can help you get your
system back. In the simple case, method 2 above does the trick and that is a XP thing.
