I am trying to run SFC/scannow on my desktop. When it asks for my cd I insert it
and the message I get is that I have the wrong cd ??? This is the original copy
and I installed windows xp myself so I know that it's the correct cd.
Help please

Does the CD have the Same Service Pack as the Computer, like SP1,2, or 3.

Make a New XP CD with the same Service Pack Slipstreamed into the CD. Google, Autostreamer it makes it easy, and you can download the service pack here. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

I'm stumped. but keep the new CD you made. The next time you reinstall Windows use
it instead of the original one.

I was disheartened to read that no one at this forum knows of a solution to the SFC problem. I slipstreamed a Windows XP Pro SP2 disc and a SP3 download together to make an SP3 install disc using Autostream. When I run sfc /scannow, I just get stuck in an infinite loop with dialog boxes that say I have the wrong disc version. I can't kill the sfc process with Windows Task Manager! I backed up my registry and tried this advice: http://www.pcug.org.au/boesen/SFC/SFC.htm which basically consists of copying the I386 folder from your slipstreamed disc to your hard drive and modifying your registry to point to the I386 folder on your HD. No joy. Microsoft was deathly silent when I posted the results of slipstreaming to their Windows XP "Expert Zone" web site, and, in an extremely interesting twist, has just erased the discussion which used to be here: http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/aspx/notifauth.aspx?url=http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg%3dmicrosoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support%26mid%3d388e57ad-5805-4ddf-ab15-43c9b7f78a14 Perhaps they should rename their OS Opaque Windows!
