Wrong icon displays in 'My Computer'

Wrong icon displays in 'My Computer'

In the directory in 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' my .jpg, .bmp, & .gif files
all display the 'Windows Picture/Fax Viewer' Icon in front of them, even though I've
changed (in tools>folder options>file types) the program they open with to Paint
Shop Pro. They DO open correctly in PSP, but the wrong icon keeps showing up beside
them in the directory listing, and it is annoying.
Would appreciate help in fixing this.

You can change the icon in Folder Options under, Files types, and the Advanced Tab.
You probably need to do it for each File you want, like .jpg, .bmp, etc.

. . . and another possibility - you need to rebuild your icon cache.
A simple way to do this is
1. Right click on your desktop and click on Properties
2. Click the Appearance tab and Advanced
3. In the drop-down box choose Icon and make a note of the size shown next to it
4. Change the size to a different value and click OK then Apply
5. Now go back and revert the icon size to its original value and OK your way out

Have you tried associating those file types within Paint Shop Pro's settings, rather
than folder options?

Thank you all for your suggestions....each was helpful in its own way.
The one that finally worked best was changing the file associations within PSP. I
had recently reformatted my computer, and it's another one of those things I forgot
to do after reinstalling PSP.
