Hidden Files & Folders Box will not stay checked

In folder Options, I cannot get the Hidden File & Folders Box to stay checked. I check it and close the options box and re-open it and it is un-checked again. I tried a suggestion (many suggestions) from a sight doing a Google search, however, that reg change I made also returned back to it’s original setting of 2. The fix was changing the value of the setting from 2 to 1 in the following entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Another suggestion was to do the following: Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL Look at the “CheckedValue” key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key. Create a new key called “CheckedValue” as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1. Not sure I understand this one, however, the string is not present in my registry anyways. “Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL”, missing in action ? Maybe, that’s my problem, it’s missing ? If it matters, this problem is on my laptop which I am running XP Home, AMD Turion64, about 2g Memory. Any Help greatly appreciated as I cannot set up my backup programs to copy the files I need to back up. Thanks.
