A comment about Remove
the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant (ClickOnce) Firefox Extension:

It looks like this happens for Chrome as well. The offending registry keys and folders were indeed installed on my PC at about the same time I allowed the .NET 3.5 update to occcur, and I have never yet installed Firefox on this PC. Though I'm not even sure that Chrome has the capacity for this sort of extension as yet...

And I have now uninstalled both .NET 3.0 SP2 and .NET 3.5 SP2, and have yet to find
an application that actually requires them...

Mind you that is just my PC. Others may need it.

Why does Microsoft bother to suggest installing software that is not needed?

Good question, you are not alone.
But to get an answer, you'd need to ask them, there are no M$ shills hanging around
here.

After much testing I found that it was this annoying Microsoft .NET Firefox plug-in that was messing up the Firefox window (splitting up the window at the bottom) and stops other plug-ins working properly!!
