Changing operating systems

This problem involves two machines. The first is a single processor, 2.8Ghz, which runs XP. It's operating system has become defective and needs to be reinstalled. The second machine, soon to be delivered, will be a dual processor, 2.8Ghz, which will be preloaded with Vista, but nothing else. I don't want Vista and would like to replace it with XP. I believe that I will firstly need to get hold of boot discs. Where do I get them? Must I contact the manufacturers of these machines or can I download something from the Net to create them myself? In the case of each machine, I will need to remove the old operating system first. Does that require me to format the hard drives of both? If I do need to format, what instructions do I key in to do that? All of my important software is on my XP machine. I will try to load its files temporarily onto the new machine if have to format the old machine. How would you go about loading all of your files from one computer to another? Can you please give me a couple of efficient methods of doing that? Can you please also give me a checklist of all the things that I will need to ensure before I begin the drastic process of a formatting procedure? I don't want to find out after I'd formatted the drive that I had failed to account for some driver or other program. I hope you can help me with this. Thank you for your time.

You need two copies of XP, you can't download them. You have to buy them. You should
already have one from the original XP computer.

Word pf advice: make sure they made XP drivers for all the stuff in the computer. Also why you are so determined to not get Vista? Best thing since sliced bread it is not but once you trim all the bells and lockouts down it is not all that different than XP.

I don't want Vista because everybody that I have met, who has used this program, says that it is a hassle to use.

Not to be harsh here but if you refer to an operating system as a program you are likely not skilled enough to handle this without hands on help. also before you risk turning your brand new system into a brick you should form your own opinion of Vista instead of relying on others.
