Windows XP Repair Console

Hello there! I tried to install Windows 7 a few weeks back, i had a little fiddle
around with it then got rid of the partition.
But i still have a problem in that, whenever i boot it still gives me the choice
between the non-existant Windows 7 and Windows XP.
So i figured i needed to put the Windows XP disk in and restore the MBR, now my problem
is that whenever i put the XP disk in, it goes straight to the "choose your partition
to install on" page...it doesnt give me the welcome to setup page where i can press
R to repair.
How do i get into the repair console?

The simpler option is to edit your Boot.ini file assuming nothing you did messed
up XP's ability to boot. Google will tell you how.

It does not seem to be using the XP boot.ini file, i dont know what it is using or
how it manages to boot since i deleted the Windows 7 partition, but it isnt using
boot.ini
Iv put my boot.ini below:
";
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
/FASTDETECT"

If you only have one partition, then that would be
...partition(1)\WINDOWS

Yes, Vista and later do not use boot.ini (for their own boot), and modify the bootsector.
The least dangerous way would probably be to re-install W7 and change the default
boot to XP, and then remove W7 again...
In Vista you don't use notepad, you use BCEDIT.EXE
W7 is probably the same .
