Question about 'Enabling or Disabling Automatic Windows Update'

Never mind enable/disable. How do I cancel it? I'm on essentially a dialup, albeit
mobile technology, connection and it is slow enough. I want to do some other work
and the download of the update is hogging transmission resources. How do I cancel
it?

Close the Web Page and reboot immediately. If the Page refuses to close use the START
button to shutdown the Computer. If all else fails, hold the POWER Button in till
it shuts down.
Yeah, chkdsk will run on reboot, that's a good thing. Let it run. You'll only loose
unsaved data.WUP is not so special that you need to go the extremes.
It's probably hung up anyway if you cannot Cancel the Download.

Thanks but shutting down the system is not going to do anything as it will restart
(it has done many times). It is now at 54%, that many days later. Dammit, I left
it running at 2.00 am hoping that there would be progress in the morning and my partner
woke up 10 mins later, saw it was still running and shut it down :(
I'll try the other link.
What I was hoping for was to be able to stop a process. Not sure why that isn't possible
or, if it is, why no one can name the process.
