Website click stopped working

I have windows XP and use Outlook Express for emails. I used to be able to click on a website name in my emails and I would automatically be taken to that website. For some reason or another that function doesn’t work for me anymore. It seems to me that somewhere on the computer there is a place where one can activate or deactiveate that function but I haven’t found it. Does anyone have any information about this problem? Thanks.

Look in Folder Options, File Types. Set HTML to your Browser. Mine for example reads as a Firefox Document.

Thanks, Steve, for you quick reply. However, I would appreciate it if you could give me a little more clarification. I found Folder Options in My Computer/Tools/File Types then scrolled down and found file types HTML APPLICATION and HTML FILE. There the trail went cold because I couldn’t tell which one might be the one you were referring to and I am not sure I understand what you mean when you say I should “set HTML to your browser.” Any more information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Link shows some pictures with a zip example. You need to scroll to HTML

Thanks Steve. The detailed information helped to a point but I still can’t click on a website in email and automaticqally go to the wbesite. With your previous info and your further information I was able to scroll down to HTML and change to Internet Explorer the browser I use. When I did it the symbol under Extensions changed to the Internet Explorer symbol. So far so good. I was suspicious though that at first under “Details” HTM was mentioned instead of HTML. When I tested the change by clicking on a website in my emails, nothing happened. Same old problem. Then I went back to the HTML entry a number of times to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong. The Internet Explorer symbol was always still there but I was surprised to find that if I clicked on any Extension other than HTML first then clicked on HTML whatever was in the previous Extension appeared in the Details. In other words if I clicked on HSL first then clicked on HTML the info in the Details for HTML became the same as it was for HSL. If I went to HTML first the Details would mention HTM. I don’t know if this is normal or not but I still can’t get a website by clicking on it in email. Any comments would be appreciated.

Open Run Box, and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

OK..

it is utilized by Internet Explorer, and contains functions used by OLE (Object Linking
and Embedding)

Steve. I tried your latest fix (open Run box, type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll, click OK) several times (got the screen message “DllRegisterServer in urlmondll succeeded”) but I never was able to automatically get to a website when I clicked on it in an email like I used to be able to. When I go to MyComputer/tools/folderoptions/filetypes then scroll through Extensions, the Details box below always mentions the same terminology as the extension I am on. That is, if I am on ASF the Details box will say, “Details for ASF extension,” then further down it will say, “Files with extension ASF are of the type -----.” This is true of all Extensions I scroll through except the HTML Extension. If I scroll down through the HTM extension and stop at HTML, the Details box will say, “Details for the HTML extension” but further down it will say, “Files with extension HTM are of the type ----.” Shouldn’t it say “Files with extension HTML?” If I scroll past the HTML extension then scroll back up to it the Detail box will say “Details for the HTML extension” but further down it will say “Files with extension HTT are of the type ---.” Does this shed any light on the problem? Any further help would be appreciated.

I don't have any other ideas. Outlook Express is a Virus Magnet, and I stopped using it some years back. I have gotten pretty Rusty on how to fix problems with it.

Thanks, MartinM. Yes, I tried CTRL and click quite a while ago and several times since then without success. Right now I use CTRL C to copy then paste that into the top of my google screen to get to the website mentioned in the emails. It is awkward and time consuming but works. I would rather fix the problem. I appreciate your input. Any other ideas?

Near bottom of Link has six or seven more Run commands you can try to re-register some Files http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281679
