This isn't an annoyance but the instructions on Windows site are for Vista. I just don't know how to do the back-up. Where do I look for the instructions? (I think the poor old Dell is about to call it a day.) Thanks for any help.

Use any DVD writing program to copy them to the DVD. XP does not have that capability,
you need to use third party software, such as Nero, or Roxio.

You need a DVD Burner, most old Dells would not have one unless it had been added after the Fact. You need 3rd Party DVD Burning Software like Nero, because XP doesn't have that feature built in.
