Home Networking works only one way

I have a small home network set up. 4 pc's 2 with XP 2 with Vista
Both XP boxes have printers attached. All 4 go through a router. All 4 can and
do access the net.
3 of the machine can talk together (file & print sharing)
the 4th (XP box) can talk to the other 3 but they can not talk back. They get messages
about permissions.
The unit with XP has file & print sharing enabled, the firewall has the file & print
sharing allowed.
I'm stumped.

RandyM, try temporarily disabling your PC's firewall/internet security and then run
the Network Setup Wizard (even if you have run it before). If 2-way connection is
then available, you will know that the problem lies with the firewall. If this is,
indeed, the problem then consult the firewall manual or contact the manufacturer.
If all this makes no difference, then I hope someone more knowledgeble can help you
through this site

Kill the firewall on the troublesome XP box (you can on all of then really unless
you are worried about them attacking each other the router renders the need to have
them moot.) That aside make sure they can ping both ways and are in the same workgroup.

Now I can not even get into the firewall properties (windows firewall) to turn it
off. The service will not start.
It has now knocked my TCP/IP out.
I may have done something while trying to get the box working again.
Up until now I was able to ping both ways.
