My system restore will not let me go back more than a week. Why would this be and how can I override it ?

What exactly do you mean by "will not let me go back" ? Are you saying there are no Restore Points more than a week old (probably, but not certainly, a result of the PC having only a small space allocated to Restore Points) ? Or are you saying that there are older Restore Points but you cannot invoke them (unlikely but possible) ? Anyway can you give some more detail please ? Alternatively, if you can say what the underlying problem is we may be able to help you sort it in other ways than through System Restore ?

SR is terribly unreliable and should not be counted on when needed. Besides that the basic concept is rather flawed. Use erunt or disk imaging instead.

I want to restore because I had an MP3 website software uninstalled but all my music files went with it. It doesn't give the option of going back more than a week. The other day it let me go back 3 months.

SR will NOT restore lost user files :-(( Where were the music files, and are you SURE they've gone ?

Do what Ricer said and use ERUNT. That is what I use. It works well, and only seconds to flash back to a restore point!

That's one of the limitations of SR, it would have done nothing to protect those
files (neither would have erunt).
If data is important to you, you should back it up.
