Unchecked "Always ask before opening this type of file" option for .exe

I didn't actually do this, but I'm curious to know how to fix it, should it happen.
I searched all over the web looking for an answer, and couldn't find one.
I understand that if I'm downloading say a .jpg file, and I accidentally uncheck
the "Always ask before opening this type of file" option, it's a pretty easy fix.
I just need to open an explorer window, choose the Tools menu, then Folder Options,
then click on the File Types tab and choose JPG, then click on the Advanced button,
and check "Confirm open after download".
Easy enough.
But, here's my dilemma. If I was downloading an .exe file, and I accidentally unchecked
the "Always ask before opening this type of file" option, it's impossible to fix,
because EXE is not listed in the File Types list.
The best information that I found on how to fix this was in this KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;140991
But, it states, that it only works with Internet Explorer 4.0, and earlier.
So, my question is, how do I get the "Always ask before opening this type of file"
option back, for downloading an .exe file after it has been unchecked, in Internet
Explorer 6 and above?

I am using IE7. Try Tools>Internet Options>Security Tab>Custom Level. Scroll down
to Downloads and click Enable for Automatic Prompting.

That option doesn't seem to be available in IE6, besides I think it will be a little
more complicated to fix this than that.
I believe it will be a registry edit, but I just don't know what it is.

Two choices, NEVER uncheck the Box or try it and see what it takes to get it reset.
I don't see the problem unless you are that careless with Downloads.

I am NOT careless with downloads, and there is NO WAY I am going to uncheck that
option without knowing how to fix it first.
Having downloaded .exe files run automatically without some kind of manual authorization
is nuts. It's a huge security risk. Any web page that you load, or hyperlink that
you click on, will have free rein to load anything it wants to onto your computer.
But, I can see someone accidentally unchecking it, because it is awfully close to
the Open button, which is why I wanted to find a solution before I ever make that
mistake.

if you had noticed, this forum is dedicated solely
for windows xp problems.
but there's a Windows 2000 forum section in this
site. suggest it would be best if you redirect your problem there.
