Outlook Express IMAP Mail Notification

I use Outlook Express on one of my computers to access e-mail from my home mail server
(Mercury). My problem is that every time OE checks for new mail, the mail noticiation
sound occurs, even when there is no new mail.
Any deas about this?

I'd heard that some anti-spam plug-ins mess with the notification sounds in OE.
Anyway, I think you might get a better response in a dedicated OE forum eg:
