I tried this morning to select a jpeg photo (8kb) into my desktop wallpaper using
Irfanview. Now when I try to adjust the Windows XP desktop (using Display Properties
screen, using either the right click on the screen, or via Control Panel) the display
properties screen comes up but I cannot activate any of the tabbed menus, and Display
Properties is not responding. When I try to close it the error message is 'rundll.exe
not responding".
I have no idea what the problem is, imagine it might have something to do with the
large picture file I set as dektop has interfered with memory or corrupted the display
setup. Also I canot go back to earlier system restore point
Question. How can I use alternative means to disable my picture from the desktop
or get rundll.exe running. Are there other Windows mechanisms to disable the picture
and go back to previous standard wallpaper.
I'm in Windows XP, updated using Windows update, SP3, Quad-Core with 4mb RAM, anti-virus
running etc.

Update and help request
I have removed the wallpaper file using regedit, tip found via Google. However my
problem with Desktop and rundll.exe remains - weird and has me concerned now about
security.
In my Windows XP Display Properties dislog boxes, I can't activate the Desktop tab
and options.
When I activate the Windows XP Display Properties screen (using either the right
click on the screen, or via Control Panel) I can activate the tabs for themes, settings
etc. but cannot make the Desktop tab activate. The Display properties box then hangs
and refuses to allow any other tab to be activated, and Display Properties is not
responding. When I try to close it the error message is 'rundll.exe not responding".

running etc.

System Restore might sort this one out.
If it doesn't then malware scans would be a good idea - MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware
are both free and reasonably aggressive.
