"System" CPU usage 100% while printing

Whenever I print a document from my accounting program to my Oki printer, it causes
the CPU usage to go to 100%-- "System" according to task manager. When the job finishes,
it drops back to 3 or 4%. Also, if I hit the pause button on the printer itself,
the usage goes back to normal until I unpause it.
This didn't happen with my old computer w/ the same printer, driver, OS, and accounting
software, nor does it happen with any other program. I did try driver and software
updates.
Any suggestions??

Actually, the printer itself (Oki microline 320 turbo) is the only hardware that's
the same. The "old" computer was 7 or 8 years old when I replaced it, but it had
XP home like the new one. Please forgive me, but I cannot recall which SP was on
the old one. (I've had this issue since I got the new machine around a year ago.)
SP3 is on the new one.
I'm not sure which details would be helpful to you-- if you could let me know what
kind of data you need, please?
Thanks!
