I have Internet Explorer 6 on my Windows XP computer. Can anyone tell me specifically how to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 and not have the tabs show up on my computer. I don't like the tabs. Thank you. Mike Brown

Hi Mike.

You can download IE7 from M$ or a lot of places, Internet
Explorer 7.0.5730.13. I downloaded IE7.0 and burnt it to a CD for future installs.

The cool thing about IE7.0 is the icons that show in your Favourites after you use
them. Its a quick reference rather than reading each link.

The only thing I don't like about it is the Address bar is at the top when previous
versions of IE have all been at the bottom.

As for the tabs IE6.0 onwards has tabs, just don't use them if you don't like them.
I like them for the fact that WinXP stacks apps up vertically in the taskbar, that
something I hate about WinXP. With the tabs you can have as many sites open as you
want too without increasing the number of apps in the taskbar.

After you install IE7.0 and you find you don't like it. Just goto Control Panel -
Add/Remove and uninstall IE7.0 and that will put back IE6.0 for you.

Plus I use the Yahoo toolbar so I can make my own button for regular sites, I could
do that with IE6.0 as well.

If you don't like the tabs (god knows why) then why don't you just stick with IE6?

On the General Tab in Internet Options is (Tabs, "Settings"). Just uncheck enable Tabbed Browsing.

You are aware that you can disable the feature that "stacks" instances of the same
ap on the XP taskbar?

Why has nobody stated the obvious, that there is a far better , more capable ,safer and more secure browser available than anything from the IE stable .It's called Firefox and it's free.

You're a fool, and nearly all your 103 posts have been equally inane. "How do I upgrade
to a tabbed browser without the tabs" is completely typical of your stupid questions.

Next you'll be asking for help in finding a black laptop that isn't black.

Why don't you just stick to using the wretched thing and leave its internals alone
?

Same place you download any Microsoft product, we are not going to do all the work for you.

I've already posted a link to FileHippo Mike. If you fancy trying a different browser
that are FireFox and Opera they are on FileHippo, search. I would suggest you save
FileHippo as a Favorite as these are loads of good free apps on there. CCleaner,
Defraggler, Recuva etc

The only slight advantage of FireFox is that it asks if you want to copy all your
IE Favorites over to FireFox.

If you want the M$ link then its Windows
Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP

As I've said before once you download IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu its a Windows
Cabinet file so you can just right-click and use WinZip to extract it to a folder
of the same name. Now Setup.exe isn't in the front folder its in a sub folder so
you can make an Autorun.inf showing the location then burn the folder to a CD. You
can use it anytime to reinstall or install after a rebuild without downloading again.

Well if you don't like tabs you might as well stay with the old IE versions - I can't remember an up to date web browser without tabs. It is one of the most convenient ways of stcking a lot of open websites, and it is included almost everywhere
