office 2000

After uninstalling OpenOffice I have just loaded Office 2000 and find that I cannot open Word, although Excel, Power Point etc. are fine. Can you tell me where the problem lies? and how to cure it? I've reloaded 4 times with the same result. Thanks

Hi Gordon.

Well I've never used OpenOffice but it appears that its left some reference to doc
file in the registry.

Open Control Panel - Folder Options. Click on File Types and scroll down or
press D to goto the first D in file extensions list. Find what file opens DOC files,
it it the old OpenOffice then just press the Delete button and Yes to remove. Close
Folder Options and find a *.doc file on your drive. Double click it and use the Open
with dialog to find Winword.exe in Program Files\Microsoft Office. Make sure the
Always use the selected program to open this type of file is ticked. That
will associate all doc file to WinWord.exe.
