Installing AVG

Hi, I'm trying to install AVG free but when I try to I keep getting told that I have to uninstall threatfire from my PC. I have uninstalled every trace of threatfire that I can find but I keep getting the same thing. Is there a trace of threatfire that I can't find still on my PC somewhere? If so, how can I get rid of it? Thanks, John

Hi Steve, I worked my way through all the ways to uninstall threatfire but still couldn't get rid of it.

On the last stage I got to 'delete repository' but the message ' cannot delete INDEX.BTR. It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that may be using this file and try again' but I don't seem to be running any other programs at the time. Any idea's on my next move? Thanks again, John

So you checked Windows Services to make sure the Service was not there or running, did you download, and run the Linked Threatfire uninstall tool.

I did all that Steve, but when I tried to install AVG again it came up with the same message that threatfire was still there! John

Type Regedit in the Run Box. Look for Find in the upper File menus. Type Threatfire in the search Box. If you find any Registry entry's you are sure are just to that Program, delete them, and see if that does anything.

Tried it Steve but just getting the exact same thing. I'll shut the PC down for the night and try again tomorrow. Thanks Steve, John

I geusss you could try installing a different free anti-virus - perhaps Avast - and
see what happens.
