Disabling Internet Integration
| Intended For |
Windows 98 only |

The internet integration feature of Windows 98, really nothing more than a series of otherwise unrelated "features" that Microsoft is using to make Windows seem more like a web page, can be one of the most irritating aspects of Windows 98.
Certainly, not everyone will agree.
If you personally don't want to take out the internet integration, don't use this program.
Due to popular demand, we are making the process of removing the internet integration feature of Windows 98 very easy by releasing this little program.
There's nothing dangerous about using this program; it simply contains about a dozen changes to the registry that otherwise would have to be made with a combination of settings in Explorer, Control Panel, TweakUI, and the Policy Editor.
There's nothing in this program that Microsoft hasn't already made available, albeit in a convoluted collection of dialog boxes.
This program does not disable the Internet Explorer web browser, it simply removes the controversial integration with the Windows desktop.
For the sake of simplicity, all of these changes have been encapsulated into a simple on/off button.
If you don't like what the program does, simply run it again to restore your interface to its previous state.
To learn more about the internet integration in Windows 98, read chapter 8 of Windows 98 Annoyances, the book (O'Reilly and Associates).

Warning: IE-OFF was written several years ago.
Since then, new versions of Internet Explorer have been released, and since IE-OFF is no longer being developed, it's effects may be undesirable on some systems.
Annoyances.org provides no warranty or support for this software.

This small utility is completely free; feel free to share it or distribute it any way you like.
However, this is not public domain; this utility is copyrighted.
It is unlawful to modify this program in any way.
Thank you.
Download IE-OFF Now! (it's about 113kb)
To run the program, just double-click on the icon. Note: it's designed only for use on Windows 98.
|
Note: IE-OFF changes only a handful of settings in Windows 98, all of which are also accessible using TweakUI and the the standard Windows interface.
If you choose to undo the changes IE-OFF has made, IE-OFF will reset those settings to their defaults - not necessarily to what they were before you installed.
